Dr. Virginia Cafaro
Dr. Virginia Cafaro founded WellSpring Medical Group in 1997. She has been practicing as an internal medicine physician since 1992.
Dr. Cafaro graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed an Infectious Disease Fellowship at Mr. Zion Medical Center in San Francisco.
Dr. Cafaro is a Brown and Toland designated HIV specialist. HIV is her field of expertise. She is also Vice President of a non-profit research group – SPOT (Shared Perspectives On Therapy).
Dr. Mark Higgins
Dr. Mark Higgins is an internal medicine physician practicing at Wellspring Medical Group since 2001.
Dr. Higgins received his MD degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. Dr. Higgins completed his Internal Medicine residency at Saint Vincent Hospital in Manhattan. He has also completed a sexually transmitted diseases Fellowship with UCSF Department of Public Health.
Dr. Higgins is a Brown and Toland designated HIV specialist. He sees HIV patients as well as general medicine patients.
Jennifer Chin, PA-C
Jennifer Chin graduated from the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine Physician Assistant Program in 1998. Jennifer has been working at WellSpring since 1999.
Jennifer manages a range of patients from general medicine and HIV to preventative health and women's health. Jennifer also manages several HIV clinical trials for our practice.
John P. Kopchak, PA-C
John was honorably discharged from the US Navy after four years of service as a hospital corpsman. He received his BS from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975 and then a BMedScience from Emory University’s Physician Assistant program in 1977. His first 14 years of practice were with the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta where he was the chief PA.
Upon his move to the Bay Area in 1992 he began to work in internal medicine and HIV care. John is an HIV Specialist credentialed through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He has participated as study coordinator and sub-investigator in over 20 clinical trials pertaining to HIV or Hepatitis C.
